August 2 is the official National coloring book day. The efforts of Dover Publications brought about this national day just last year. That makes this the second annual celebration. Dover Publications has been around since 1941 and created the first adult coloring book in 1970. Adult coloring book sales have escalated recently with an estimated 10 million + books being sold last year. In addition to being a relaxing pastime, I would imagine the surge in popularity brings back fond memories of childhood just like the popular new app, Pokemon Go!
As a result of the growing popularity many stores like Barnes & Noble, Target and Michael’s have increased their inventory. Michael’s carries over 300 different adult coloring books! Furthermore the books are now appearing on Amazon’s bestselling book lists!
You can get the official 2016 mini coloring book by clicking on this link here. Signing up to access this book also enters you for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate from Dover Publications. In addition I’ve attached several pdf’s below that you can download and print.
Michael’s is hosting a coloring meet up all day Tuesday, August 2 in their classrooms. You can also click here to find a coloring party in your area. Of course many people create their own coloring parties complete with wine and snacks by inviting guests through an event created on Facebook.
So, get busy stocking up on supplies and color, color, color!
Be sure to leave a comment and let everyone know how you plan to celebrate National Coloring Day!
